What is there to say about the Eiffel Tower? It's iconic, it lights up majestically at night, and it's much bigger in person. It's hard to be disappointed seeing this astounding structure in real life. Can you believe that this was created as a temporary entrance to the 1889 World's Fair? (My first question: What did they originally plan to do with it afterwards?)
Things to know: Don't buy the unofficial trinkets from street vendors (there are signs everywhere saying this); buy your tour tickets early (see note below); and give yourself enough time to get through the tower entrance's lines and thorough security process.

As Paris' biggest attraction, undoubtedly, spots for tours of the tower--both for the lower deck and for the higher deck with the best city views--can be limited, especially during peak seasons. If you plan to go up the tower, make sure to buy your tickets online months in advance. Otherwise, you'll end up like us: empty-handed and wistfully looking up from the ground level. |
